Here's the cover of the 1982 Penguin Classics paperback I have (416 pages). The one pictured with this edition is actually from a later printing. Strange tales, many of them involving evil spirits. The tales also often involve stories about stories, which usually turns me off for some reason. I'm glad to know something now about this writer greatly celebrated in his time, but his stories won't be among those I reread down the line.
